Take a spin at the Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland has become a holiday tradition for many families. Originally opened in 1950, the attraction originally only had the Ferris Wheel and a petting zoo. Today, there are over 15 rides and attractions that include the Winter Wonderland Carousel, Bumper Cars, a Tilt-A-Whirl, and a Kiddieland Carousel for children under 10 years old. The merry-go-round style Kiddieland Carousel features beautifully painted horses designed by local artists. Winter Wonderland is a great place for kids to enjoy their first roller coaster ride. The Bumper Cars are two-seaters that participants drive around an enclosed track while trying to bump into other cars.

In addition, the Ferris Wheel is one of the most iconic rides at Winter Wonderland. The giant wheel is 60 feet tall and can hold up to 12 passengers. The ride rotates slowly as passengers take in the view of Downtown San Jose and the beautiful bay. Riders can enjoy a perfect view of the nearby Bay Bridge and its signature orange span.

Celebrate your Christmas in the Park

For more than 60 years, Christmas in the Park has been a holiday tradition for the community of San Jose. This festival of lights, decorations, and entertainment is free to visit and open every day from November 1st through December 24th.

The main attraction of Christmas in the Park is the Christmas Village, where you can see fancifully-decorated Christmas trees and other holiday displays made by local businesses and community organizations. There are also local vendors selling tasty treats like churros and hot cocoa. Families can come together to enjoy holiday concerts featuring local talents, like guitarists and pianists. And visitors can bring their pets during a special pet parade that runs on Fridays and Saturdays in December.

Christmas in the Park is located at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park near downtown San Jose, within walking distance from many hotels in Silicon Valley, including The Hotel De Anza and Hotel Valencia Santana Row.

Test if you’re really a diehard fan at the DIE HARD Christmas Trivia Night

Welcome to the party, pal! Join the event for a night of honoring the best Christmas movies! There will be 60 all-new questions about Die Hard and Die Hard II, food and drink specials, a costume contest, and the chance to win Die Hard goodies all night long at Nakatomi Plaza! Just note that there will be no Die Hard 4 or 5 trivia because they were terrible. Ha-ha.

You may want to stop by the Britannia Arms Almaden as well! Come to San Jose, get together, and have a few laughs! At A Very DIE HARD Christmas Trivia, you can prove you’re the ultimate McClane! And if you’re not a Die Hard fan, there’s also Cooking with Walt & Jesse! A trivia event based on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul!

Listen to your favorite Christmas songs!

The holiday season is full of festivities, and here in the South Bay, a few local companies are making it easy for you to enjoy them all. The San Jose Playhouse has teamed up with 3Below, a Santa Clara-based digital agency, to bring you this innovative new way to enjoy some of your favorite stories that center on holidays and the spirit of giving.

While listening to favorite holiday stories (such as Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You on loop), holiday songs, holiday humor, and holiday trivia, enjoy a meticulously designed art piece with enormous, brilliant beautiful banners. All are accompanied by audio in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. This is a FREE walk-by experience that is only available during holiday hours.

Take your kids to a whole new world at the Center for the Performing Arts

The holidays are a special time of year, and there is no better way to celebrate than by taking your family to see a live performance. Experience the beauty and splendor of The San José Dance Theatre’s The Nutcracker this winter season, a family favorite since 1966. The original San Jose Nutcracker will transport you to a wonderful world of courageous toy troops and dancing snowflakes. Enter an enchanted world of exquisite sugarplums, waltzing flowers, a dramatic battle between brave soldiers and threatening mice, and the premiere of a new extra-large Christmas tree that grows to be nearly 200 feet tall!
